One week ago I packed up the car with as much stuff that could fit, booted up the GPS with the destination: Las Vegas, Nevada and headed West. just about 48 hours later Liz and I unlocked the door to our apartment and had officially made it.
What an incredible trip. Driving through Colorado and Utah had to be one of the most beautiful drives either of us had ever experienced. The sunsets were amazing, the views were breathtaking, it sucked that I had to focused on the road most of the time. As we were driving out there it really didn’t feel as though we were moving. It felt more like we were just going back to school, or were on vacation or something like that. Even now, sitting here writing this “oh I’ve been here a week, should be getting ready to leave soon….”. Not the case. We are here. In Vegas. It’s incredible. Speaking of which, lets talk about the first (official night) that Liz and I were actually here….
Walking through the casino passing all of the tables and machines and people towards what was turning into a well formed group, it really wasn’t apparent as to what we were about to do. I had not seen the show in about 5 years. It was Liz’s first time ever seeing it. The doors opened and we were lead into a beautiful theater. On the screen, a video describing the man we are about to see. Mr. David Copperfield. We take our seats and the wait begins. As we are sitting there we see someone just kind of…. staring at us. And not just “oh im gonna look this way now” we’re talking staring. us. down. So Mike and I look at eachother and go: “Is that…Kenner?” (Copprfields producer) We didn’t really know, and the more we thought about it the more we were convinced that it wasn’t. As the man got closer we realized, yep, that was him. He comes over and says hello to Mike (they are good friends) and Liz and i get introduced. Chris Kenner is one of the most brilliant minds in magic and has worked with David Copperfield for years. I was very happy to finally be able to meet him. Then he says “Is it just the three of you?” We says yes and he takes out his phone. A few seconds later we are being rushed down to the front section of the theater and just as the show starts we take our (new) seats, 6 rows back from front. Thank you Chris Kenner. The show was INCREDIBLE. Got to see some old illusions that were brought back as well as some updated versions of things I had already seen. Seeing the look on Liz’s face was worth the price of the ticket alone. She was smiling the whole time and couldn’t believe it. The show ends and we are about to get up and leave when Mike sees the following message on his Twitter: “Hey! If you go down to the TV on the right side of the stage, we will have someone meet you there….” So…..Yea…. looks like we are going to be meeting David Copperfield. Now, as many of you know, the first time this happened, I didn’t really talk to him all that much. In fact, the only thing I was really able to say was, “Hi”. If this happened again, I would never live it down. The side doors open and out walks Chris Kenner again. “Oh hey guys!” A few moments later we are standing in a hallway and out walks the man himself. Finally able to talk to my idol, we headed home. And so ends the first night in Vegas. What a way to start it off.
The rest of the week was spent wandering around The Strip and checking out all of the different casinos/hotels. A lot of which were so incredible and so big, that we didn’t have enough time or energy to get through them all. So far, the MGM Grand is my favorite. The Luxor (yea, thats the big pyramid one) was very unimpressive actually. Excalibur was amazing. GIANT castle. So much fun.
So much more to see as far as The Strip goes, but for now we are just enjoying the time here. Job hunting starts tomorrow and that is where I think the “vacation” feeling will wear off. But all the work will be worth it, because living here is incredible and i want to keep doing it.
Thats all for now. Until next time….
